Which is the best vehicle tracking device for insurance?
We recommend you contact your insurance company to understand what their requirement is for your policy. They will have a list of accepted insurance-approved trackers. We sell Scorpion Thatcham Category S5 and Scorpion Thatcham Category S7 trackers which are accepted by the majority of policies.
What is the difference between CAT 5 and CAT 6 trackers?
Both types of trackers come with a dedicated 24-hour security centre who can call you in the event of an emergency and can work with the police to recover your vehicle. Category S5 units come with an ID Tag system, allowing the owner to be alerted if the vehicle is ever driven without the tag being recognised by your tracker. Category S6, also known as Category S7, is unable to distinguish between an authorised driver and a theft.
Can trackers be jammed?
Some trackers can be jammed. Category S5 and S7 trackers cannot. The trackers use VHF technology (Very High Frequency). This technology is an undetectable tracking frequency that cannot be jammed or blocked by any equipment. Giving you the peace of mind that the thief cannot detect or jam your device.
What are the Thatcham categories?
All Thatcham trackers come with a 24/7 Monitored Alarm Centre that can raise a level 1 police response in the event of an emergency. Besides this, the categories differ in features. The CAT S7 has no additional features. The CAT S5 comes with an ID tag system that alert the driver if the vehicle is started without your ID tag being registered. The CAT S5+ automatically immobilisers the vehicle when the ID tags are not present.
